Regen Coordination End of Year Reflections

gm gm!

As we prepare for our open session this Wednesday (Dec 16, tomorrow), we’re opening this space for collective reflection on 2025 and to articulate how our learnings can shape our plans for 2026 and beyond.

→ Join us in the session / event page

Join us as we close the year and reflect on our growth and stagnation in the Regen space. This year has been tough for many of us and our communities finding sustainability and funding in an ever evolving space with shifting priorities. This call is a space to reflect on good and turbulent times, share learnings and look forward to 2026 with positivity, vibrancy and energy.

As we take January to reconsider what Regen Coordination should be and to develop our 2026 plans, your insights will directly inform our direction and strategy to best serve the network’s interests.

We look forward to your contributions! :sparkles:

How to Participate

We’re using two complementary formats to gather your input:

  • Slido (during the call): For short, structured responses and real-time engagement. Great for quick insights and ranking exercises.

  • Forum thread (this space): For deeper, paragraph-length reflections. Even if you’ve answered Slido prompts, please share your more detailed thoughts here as well.

Pre-Workshop Questions

To complement the workshop, we’ve set up a Slido where you can submit questions in advance of the call: https://app.sli.do/event/2tbLh88XRayRi7icATv5s8/live/questions

Icebreaker: What does “regen” mean to you?

Prioritization: What forms of capital should Regen Coordination prioritize for 2026? (Please rank)

Strategic Planning: What are our best pathways to sustainability and growth in the regen space? (Please rank)

Note: We’ve structured the questions to help identify more constructive paths forward based on clear signals rather than open-ended sensing.

Deeper Reflection Prompts :shooting_star:

Feel free to share your reflections across different perspectives – from your specific project/chapter/node and personal endeavors, to Regen Coordination, and the wider network.

Next steps – January sensemaking

Following this end-of-year reflection, we’ll dedicate January to synthesizing community signals through internal council workshops and open community sessions. This will help us articulate a clear vision and positioning for Regen Coordination in 2026, informed by your input here and during the workshop.

Your reflections and responses will directly shape this process. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives! :folded_hands:

“The old that is strong does not wither, / Deep roots are not reached by the frost.” - Tolkien

This year has been powerful in forging deeper ties across Greenpill, ReFi DAO, Celo Regional DAOs, and more. Though the existing funding model from the past few years has become more scarce, there are emerging more stable primitives like Octant Vaults and Hypercerts that I believe will be pillars of sustainability in the space. In particular, with Regen Coordination, I’m grateful to have served on the council, forming closer bonds with @luizfernando, @montymerlin, @trinitymorphy, and Scott, and been able to coordinate for a successful GG23. A special shoutout to @montymerlin for bringing CIDS to the space, and I believe we will drive it forward in 2026 as a methodology to capture impact and start to have clear activities, outputs, and outcomes.

→ Key Highlights of 2025 ←

  • Greenpill House ETHDenver 2025 was a huge success with merch and BBQ shoutout JT!
  • Greenpill Dev Guild Branding Contest & Revamp
  • Greenpill Dev Guild Regen Stack Article Series covering the stack from blockchain, protocol, identity, and application
  • Green Goods Karma GAP integration automating impact reporting and making it easier to connect impact to funders
  • Public Goods Staking Protocol creation and launch of Greenpill Obol Squad
  • Tech & Sun Solar Hubs by Greenpill Nigeria Localism Funding
  • Greenpill Garden Kickoff to incubate Greenpill Stewards and form deeper roots for growth

→ Key Challenges of 2025 ←

  • Low Grant applying velocity, though funding was scarce within Greenpill we did not have the working body to pursue grants until Q3
  • Continuing with above point we did raise much capital across Greenpill Network and many Chapters struggled to sustain operations
  • Being our biggest Moloch and focusing too much on tech and mechanisms when we should focus on strengthening our connection to local communities and creating practical, simple solutions
  • Burnout from wearing too many hats and not having enough inflow of capital relative to the work being done. I personally made many decision detrimental to myself to keep coordination going and it was the right choice but nevertheless hard

→ Visions for 2026 ←

  • Sharper focus on core areas of focus within Greenpill it’s clear DesSci with @SwiftEvo work and making inroads in Taiwan and broader Asia, DePin with solar hubs in Nigeria being led by @Amio @Buildwithmc @nansel , Jon Ruth, @MattyCompost and myself, environment in particular farming (Diogo, @Coi in Brasil) and waste management (@SDCK @abrxhm.eth in Côte de Vore, @alwynvanwyk in Cape Town and @lumina.envision in Koh Phangan), lastly is education which we can make inroads with Ethereum hubs and student engagement, shout out @explorience with London, Ontario, @GreenpillKenya with building a hub from the ground, Luisa in Brasil with Fablabs and the great community being built in Boulder with @owocki, Benjamin Life and others.
  • Grow the regen protocols being established with the Greenpill Garden which translate to more IRL events and a shared language for how we host events and share resources, knowledge and service sharing via commitment pools on Sarafu Network, Ethereum and DeFi staking yield with Obol, Lido, Octant Vaults and more to create sustainable funds for public goods and finally a impact reporting framework built upon CIDS that makes is easy to capture impact and tokenize it into impact certificates.
  • Within the Regen space, Regen Coordination serving as the community hub for different orgs and individuals with a strong connection to Regen Commons which serves as a more formalized springboard for partnership, IP pooling and funding opportunities especially with traditional markets. Ideally ETHDenver and Boulder can be the schelling point to showcase the coordination growth in our community and attract more support and funders
  • Within the Greenpill Dev Guild with Green Goods building a kickass protocol that connect all layers of the regen stack with an emphasis on impact reporting and capital formation. Creating a user funnel that’s wide with making impact reporting accessible across 2G feature phones, WhatsApp and our PWA (Progressive Web App) so a farmer in a with SMS can report impact and a savvy web3 user can do the same via the app. With capital formation we want to create a low to high investment funnel for regenerative project using Octant vault to attract capital in a low risk manner and using that yield to create a soft buy pressure for Hypercerts (impact certificates) which are a more medium investment path then exploring more high investment models like Revnets. We’re also exploring integrating more privacy and idetity primitives with an plan to integrate Unlock as a badging system via GreenWill the current badge system for Greenpill.

Overall I am incredibly bullish for 2026 and excited to grow stronger bonds and keep weaving our movements, communities, tools and cultures together to create an network with deep roots and strong flows.

here are a few quicker reflections from my side for before the session – I’ll then be sharing the challenges & appending other points later on, to take the time to make them actually insightful.

Icebreaker — what “regen” means to me

To my personal comprehension/identification with the term “regen”, it revolves around some key aspects:

  • To see the need for regenerating our environments & social systems and have the will to do so
  • To be aligned with the vision of the ecosocial transition
  • And to create new systems

→ Key Highlights of 2025 ←

Some key highlights of 2025 to me:

  • Consolidation of Regen Coordination and strengthening ties with GreenPill, Trinity and other participants – with some key highlights:

    • GG23 & CIDS pilot: Ran a program that demonstrated how when collaborating with other networks we could coordinate more ambitious/needed programs to fill gaps & needs in the ecosystem.
    • Local ReFi Toolkit – kickstarting plans with convergence strategy toward Ethereum Localism, with the potential/vision of making it a shared asset for close/highly aligned networks, such as Regen Commons, Ethereum Localism and other groups.
  • ReFi BCN cooperative formation: Kickstarted the process of constituting ReFi BCN as a workers cooperative in Catalonia with @giulio and @andrea — being housed/incubated by one of the major coop hubs in Europe.

  • Bread Coop alignment: ReFi DAO joined Bread Coop as a project member, then transitioned membership to Regen Coordination — it has been a concrete mutual aid mechanism that has been providing funding to ReFi DAO and now Regen Coordination through the Solidarity Fund. It has been a pleasure to join and be part of a network of value-aligned projects & individuals working to build financial mechanisms/primitives based on solidarity.

  • ReFi DAO 2.0 consolidation: Consolidated ReFi DAO 2.0 into a minimum-viable organization that can now be iterated on more intentionally (instead of constantly reinventing structure).

  • Regenerant Catalunya: Progress on a grounded, place-based coordination pathway — 11 projects documenting activities/outputs, building capacity for ongoing impact documentation via Karma GAP, creating a repeatable model for bioregional regeneration.

  • Bioregional organizing, with the activation of ReFi Mediterranean and execution of its funding round in GG23 + organizing the BioFi Barcelona event, kickstarting the vision of building BFF(s) in Catalunya with key local stakeholders – that is being piloted/experimented in the form of a program with Regenerant Catalunya.
